AI in public health: a foundational shift, or a technocratic distraction?

A Lancet Public Health agenda for policymakers argues AI can improve population health and equity only if built on robust public health infrastructure, and warns it may otherwise widen the very disparities it promises to close.

The agenda is deliberately skeptical: it treats AI as a multiplier, not a fix, for population health.

The warning is concrete. Without the data infrastructure and access underneath it, AI reaches the already-served fastest and widens the gap.
